The Cost of Wisdom Teeth Removal
At Los Angeles Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we strive to make excellent oral surgery care available to as many people as possible. We understand the cost of some oral surgery procedures can be high, and we do all that we can to make treatment accessible to more people in Los Angeles.
When you come to our office for the consultation, you will meet with either Dr. Kupferman, Dr. Walline, Dr. Relle, Dr. Lee, or Dr. Sonnichsen. Your oral surgeon will evaluate the state of your oral health and determine the condition of your wisdom teeth. We typically take 3D scans to further evaluate the bones and soft tissues of the mouth and face. Once we know how many wisdom teeth you have and their size, we can better determine how much it would cost to have them extracted.
The average cost of this procedure is difficult to determine because every patient is different. There are several factors that determine the cost of wisdom teeth extraction, all of which we discuss prior to performing any surgery. These include:
- The number of wisdom teeth; some people develop all four, some between one and four, and others develop more than four
- If any teeth are impacted; due to full or partial eruption, an impacted wisdom tooth must be surgically removed, adding to the complexity of the procedure
- Your choice of anesthesia; we commonly perform this surgery using IV sedation, however local anesthesia, general anesthesia, and laughing gas are also available
- Your dental insurance
Does Insurance Cover Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Dental insurance typically covers the cost of procedures that are deemed medically necessary. If you have impacted wisdom teeth, for example, it is considered medically necessary to have these teeth surgically extracted. Many dental insurance plans have at least some level of benefit for wisdom teeth procedures.
Some dental insurance plans cover some or all of the cost. To find out how much your insurance would cover for wisdom teeth removal, contact them directly. All insurance companies are a little different. It’s important to remember that any amount not covered by insurance is your responsibility.
