This lecture highlights the contributions of American oral and maxillofacial surgeons to the field of orthognathic surgery. An improved understanding of the biological and surgical principles and the routine involvement of orthodontics have fueled widespread adoption of a coordinated approach to the treatment of dentofacial problems. About the Speaker
R. Bryan Bell, MD, DDS, FACS
Dr. Bell has pioneered the use of virtual surgical planning in head and neck surgery, trauma, and orthognathic surgery. He is currently Co-Director of the Providence Head and Neck Cancer Program and Clinic at the Providence Cancer Institute, where he also directs a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Bell has fostered an institutional commitment to head and neck cancer immunotherapy research through numerous collaborations with scientists at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute. His research efforts are currently directed toward promoting application of novel findings to the clinic, enhancing tissue collection for scientific interrogation, and the design of novel therapeutic trials in head and neck cancer.
A Texas native, Dr. Bell enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. When not working, Dr. Bell also enjoys music, golf, fishing, and traveling.
